Sinks and Countertops
When you have a countertop, whether it be in the kitchen or bathroom, you will need a sink installed with it in some manner.
Two Ways to Achieve This:
- Sink separate from countertop: This is to install a countertop with a hole cut in it to accommodate a sink. The sink can be dropped in or under-mounted.
- Integrated sink and countertop: The sink and countertop are fabricated from a single piece of material. Or from material cut and then fabricated in such a way that you cannot tell that the sink or countertop was separately created.
We encourage you to do your own research on these things but here is a quick overview.
Our take: We like the integrated countertop and sink for a bathroom vanity but not for the kitchen. For the kitchen, we like the under mount stainless steel double sink paired with a countertop of your choice.

Kitchens
Integrated kitchen countertops and sinks look great. They are usually made from Corian or quartz fabricated into one piece. But you can get them in concrete and other materials. And there are a variety of ways you can mix and match the materials.
They have great visual appeal:
But there are a couple of drawbacks: 1)They are relatively expensive and require professional fabrication and installation. 2) If there is damage to the sink, you have to replace the countertop as well.
Bathrooms
An integrated countertop and sink is a single fabricated combination of sink and countertop that mounts directly on top of the bathroom vanity. Check out the banner image on this post.

This arrangement is perfect for the bathroom for six main reasons:
- It is visually appealing
- It is easy to clean
- It comes in a variety of materials
- It is widely available and in a variety of sizes that include single and twin sinks
- It is easy to install
- It is relatively inexpensive
It is true that, if you damage the sink part or the countertop part, you have to replace the whole unit. But the bathroom is much less accident-prone than the kitchen. And bathroom integrated countertop and sink units are much less expensive than their kitchen counterparts
